September was designated School Bus Safety Month this year by Congress. However, child safety has always been a priority for Blue Bird, and our Blue Bird Vision school bus helps us to meet that expectation, where safety is built in. With an estimated 25 million children riding to and from school on any given day, did you know a school bus is the safest form of ground transportation? In fact, the federal government considers school buses to be about 9 times safer than other passenger vehicles during the normal school commute. The reason for this is that school buses are designed specifically with safety in mind from the yellow color, flashing lights and stop signs to be sure they stand out, to the compartmentalization through closely spaced seats and high-impact absorbing seat backs. In an additional study, students are 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a school bus instead of traveling by car, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
With the safety measures mentioned above already in place, what makes the Blue Bird Vision any different? The Vision earns its name due to its best-in-class driver visibility and maneuverability. The vision provides exceptional forward visibility and unique mirror systems that improve driver awareness and increase the safety of the children around the bus as well as inside. The Vision has a closer direct line of sight than any other conventional school bus even without the use of mirrors. This is just one of the reasons the Vision is one of the safest Blue Bird school buses on the road. With Blue Bird safety is standard, not an option. We will dive into part two of our Vision series during school bus safety week in October, stay tuned for more information on how Vision exceeds safety expectations.
