ALT Fuels Colorado—Apply Today to Fund Your Electric School Bus Tomorrow

May 7, 2021by cowest

We recently had the pleasure of introducing both the Boulder Valley School District and the West Grand School District to the first two Blue Bird Electric school buses in Colorado.  They were exciting events both for the districts and for us here at Colorado/West Equipment, Inc. What does this have to do with ALT Fuels Colorado?  Both School Districts were able to purchase their new buses with the help of the Alternative Fuels Colorado Program.  In addition to receiving funding from the program, West Grand School District was able to secure contributions from two electric utility companies, Mountain Parks Electric and Tri-State Generation and Transmission, to cover the cost of the bus and the necessary charging infrastructure. For those interested in applying for the grant, the time has arrived.

This past week marked the reopening announcement for the ALT Fuels Colorado program.  The penalty money from the VW Emissions Scandal is allocated to projects to reduce NOx from heavy duty diesel sources across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.  However, in Colorado funds have been allocated differently, toward zero emission vehicles specifically, Electric school buses.  Through our partnership with Blue Bird , we were the first to offer Certified Electric School buses here in Colorado.

The application is open from Monday, May 3, 2021 and closes on July 30, 2021 at 5:00 PM MST. Visit the ALT Fuels Colorado webpage for information on the following:

  • Different Incentive Levels
  • Program Materials – there are many items that require reviewing prior to applying
  • How to apply

These funds are available to all public, private, and non-profit fleets statewide.

As a pioneer and leader in alternative fuel vehicles, Blue Bird was first to market electric school buses in 1994. We offer an electric bus for every application, Blue Bird Vision, All American RE, and Micro Bird G5 Electric. Colorado/West Equipment, Inc. and Nebraska/Central Equipment, Inc. are here to serve your electric school bus needs.   Contact us today and we will guide you through the application process and discuss your passenger needs.  Our Blue Bird electric buses are also available for purchase through our national Sourcewell contract, which satisfies all requirements to meet compliance.
